REQUIREMENTS FOR MARRIAGE IN AUSTRALIA 1). Notice of
Intended Marriage.
Australian law requires
that a Notice of Intended Marriage be completed,
signed by both parties, witnessed by an
authorised witness, and lodged with the
celebrant. This notice must be completed at least
one month (31 days) before the wedding date (but
not more than six months).

Supporting Documents
Birth certificates need
to be sighted by the celebrant before the
marriage, and duly noted on the Notice of
Intended Marriage. Where there has been a
previous marriage, a Decree Absolute in the case
of divorce, or a Death Certificate, if
applicable, must also be sighted by the
celebrant.

Witnesses
Two witnesses over the
age of 18 must be present at the ceremony.

All documents must be in
English, or a certified translation provided.
